The Electrical Safety Training System (ESTS) focuses on workplace electrical safety and the application of industry consensus based Standards to effectively manage the electrical hazards of arc flash and shock. It applies content from the CSA Z462 Workplace electrical safety Standard to allow you to identify and quantify shock and arc flash hazards, while providing guidance on applying a Plan, Do, Check, Act philosophy when you have to work with energized electrical equipment.

*With respect to due diligence against Occupation Health & Safety Regulations the Electrical Safety Training System provides electrical hazard specific training related to the hiarchial preventive and protective control measures. As an employer and supervisor you need to apply:

1. Elminate the hazard, de-energize is the first choice;
2. Substitute with other materials, processes or equipment;
3. Reduce the risk by engineering design (e.g. engineering solutions, equipment solutions, "Safety by Design"). Ensure that adequate electrical equipment maintenance is performed and at an accepteable frequency;
4. Use safer work systems that increase awareness of potential hazards (e.g. apply safe guards like signage, barriers, etc.);
5. Implement administrative controls (e.g. training and procedures); and
6. Use Electrical Specific PPE, Tools & Equipment as a last line of defense and ensure it is appropriately used and maintained.

Course Contents:

The Electrical Safety Training System (ESTS) is comprised of ten (10) Modules and each Module has a varying number of independant lessons:

1. Introduction
2. OH&S Regulations, Standards and Best Practices
3. Understanding Electricity in the Workplace
4. Electrical Hazards Understanding the Risk
5. Electrical Hazard Analysis
6. Establishing an Electrically Safe Work Condition
7. Engineering and Administrative Controls
8. Electrical Specific PPE, Tools & Equipment
9. Emergency Response, Incident Reporting and Program Maintenance
10. Final Assessment

Each Module includes a Knowledge Check that utilizes interactive elements that engage the student in the learning process. Reference tables, forms, definitions, acronymns, and graphics are provided in the Electrical Safety Training System (ESTS) that are used in the course content and provided in a Resource Toolbox after the student successfully completes the course for additional review. The Final Assessment utilizes questions and three scenarios where the student interacts with the Virtual Electrical Classroom (VEW). The Electrical Safety Training System (ESTS) is cost effective, easy to access and user friendly. All workers can receive training.

The Electrical Safety Training System (ESTS) should be used in conjunction with an Electrical Safety Program (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Management System that can be based on CAN/CSA Z1000 for Canada or ANSI/AIHA Z10 for the United States).

*These preventive and protective control measures and the hiearchy they are listed in are recommended by Occupational Health & Safety Management System Standards like CAN/CSA Z1000, ANSI/AIHA Z10, ILO-OSH 2001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 14001.
